Merrill J. Bateman

(Ph.D. in Economics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology) served as president of Brigham Young University from January 1996 to April 2003. His former academic assignments include lecturer in economics at the University of Ghana, assistant professor of economics at the U.S. Air Force Academy, associate professor and professor of economics at Brigham Young University, and dean of the Brigham Young University School of Management. He headed his own consulting and capital management companies and was an executive with Mars, Inc., in England and the United States. He serves as a member of the presidency of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having previously served as Presiding Bishop.
